Back in the old days of 2012 the death of Facebook was predicted to happen within 5 to 8 years... It appeared a good thing to me at that time π The link I referred to does not exist any more, but found out it was to a CNBC article : https://www.cnbc.com/id/47674474. So now I sit down and wait until June 4th....π
Happy 12th Birthday Fediverse! π₯³
@Gina well done! I also find it hard to keep running these days, but after every run I come back with a big smile π
Okay, found out that there actually is a newer version of Gnu Social, only it has not been linked to by the website. Will find one way or another to link the accounts, or maybe #micro.blog at my own blog and post it to my Mastodon and GnuSocial account....
Finally had time to resolve the 502 bad gateway error on my #statusnet / #gnusocial server. The update of php-fpm broke it 6 weeks ago π€ Now find a way to import my messages from there to Mastodon, or find another way of not losing the content of previous years... #indieweb. It is a pity the Gnu Social project is not actively maintained and that the change of protocol broke my connections to other servers π

@ericbuijs @Gina Anyway I would not even think about selling out my data myself, apart from what I already "sold" out unknowingly. BTW #freedombone looks promising. Only problem I see with a homebased server is the protection of your data...
@ericbuijs @Gina I agree that selling our own data could corrupt us, but basically you would have a choice to sell or not to sell.
Now that we have American presidential candidates normalizing the idea of owning your data like personal property, I wonder how the #Solid project (solid.inrupt.com) is doing?

The history of USENET and the alt. hierarchy shows what we lost when the Internet stopped being about protocols and started being about productsβa catastrophe adversarial interoperability staved off for decades, until we blocked it with terrible tech laws. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2019/11/altinteroperabilityadversarial
